DESCRIPTION:Navigating Risk with Your Key Stakeholders\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableWednesday\, October 30\, 20244:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n Lawsuits aimed at undermining philanthropic efforts to advance racial justice and equity have pushed questions of “risk” to the forefront of a conversation about funder strategy. Chief among them\, “What amount of risk is acceptable to funders who invest in programs and initiatives that are under increased scrutiny?” While critical to answer with clarity\, this question often assumes agreement and alignment on what risk is\, and who carries it. Yes\, legal exposure creates risk to an organization. But what of the risks of inaction\, of muting an effective approach\, of accepting the terms of bad faith actors? Risks to the organization clearly need careful consideration when setting strategies and navigating tradeoffs\, but so too do risks to the organization’s staff\, grantees\, and the communities that it ultimately serves. \nIn this virtual leader roundtable\, we’ll explore the most effective ways to engage relevant stakeholders — including general counsels\, boards of directors\, and others — in an expansion of the term “risk”\, one that reframes risk such that it becomes more inclusive and more useful as a concept. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

DESCRIPTION:NationSwell x MCF Book Club – King: A Life by Jonathan Eig\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell MainStageThe Altman Building\, New York CityTuesday\, November 19th\, 20246:00 PM – 8:30 PM ET \n \n Register Today\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nNationSwell and Marguerite Casey Foundation (MCF) are proud to present the fourth event in our book club series: “King: A Life” — the first significant account in decades of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — featuring Pulitzer-winning biographer Jonathan Eig in conversation with Dr. Carmen Rojas\, President & CEO of Marguerite Casey Foundation\, and Dr. Darrick Hamilton\, Professor of Economics and Urban Policy at the New School. \n“King: A Life” offers a revelatory portrait of Dr. King\, blending newly declassified FBI files with vivid storytelling to reveal the complexities of King’s life and work. The biography not only follows King’s journey from the pulpit to the streets of Birmingham\, Selma\, and Memphis but also delves into his private struggles\, familial relationships\, and the intense government repression he endured. King’s commitment to fighting for racial and economic justice\, even at the cost of his life\, emerges as a deeply humanizing story of personal and social transformation. \nJoin us on November 19th in New York City for a conversation among Jonathan Eig\, Dr. Carmen Rojas\, and Dr. Darrick Hamilton on the intricate dynamics of King’s leadership and legacy in today’s political context. Together\, we will reflect on how King’s critique of racism\, economic exploitation\, and militarism continues to inform contemporary movements for freedom and explore how King’s understanding of justice can inspire a better vision for how we build economic and social policy today. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n AGENDA\n \n \n \n \n \n 6:00 pmDoors Open and Light Refreshments \n7:00 pmPanel Begins \n8:15 pmPanel Concludes \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location\n \n \n \n \n \n The Altman Building135 W 18th StreetNew York\, NY 10011 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learn more about MCF Book Club\n \n \n \n \n \n Once a month the MCF Book Club shares the ideas of leaders who encourage us to imagine how we can radically transform our democracy\, economy\, and society. When we engage in a conversation about the arts and their social impact\, we delve into how creative expression can challenge norms\, foster empathy\, and inspire action. From theater and music to visual arts and literature\, these mediums have the unique ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers\, bringing diverse communities together. The arts provide a platform for marginalized voices\, enabling them to tell their stories and advocate for justice. As we explore this topic\, it’s essential to consider how the arts not only reflect societal issues but also actively contribute to shaping a more equitable and inclusive world. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Check out the Council calendar to learn more about upcoming events. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

How might we use the engagement of an election cycle to promote understanding and collaboration? How can we foster constructive dialogue with those who hold different views? How can we find ways to embrace our shared humanity? How can we navigate compromises that still honor our core values? \n\n\nLight bites and refreshments will be provided. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n AGENDA\n \n \n \n \n \n 6:00 PM \nWelcome and Happy Hour \n7:00 PM \nFormal Discussion \n8:15 PM \nReflect and Mingle \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n COVID-19 In-Person Policy\n \n \n \n \n \n The health and safety of our NationSwell members\, staff\, and community is incredibly important to us. Casey Foundation and the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation\, to launch the Case for Childcare Collaborative — a collective effort and model to provide resources and solutions to help every employer invest in childcare benefits for all workers. \nJoin us\, alongside leaders from across industries\, for an engaging session on the latest research findings\, our expanded resources\, and actionable solutions for funders and employers. Together we’ll explore ways we can transform childcare from a barrier into a bridge for workforce participation and create a thriving economy for all. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n \n \n \n Check out the Institutional calendar to learn more about upcoming events.

Today\, more than ever\, we need community to bring us together\, foster connection\, and create meaningful impact. \nBut what exactly is community\, and how do we build\, nurture\, and sustain it? As leaders\, how can we balance large-scale systems change with impactful local and community work\, ensuring they align and strengthen each other? \nJoin us on site at the Lamorinda Care Collective as we explore what it takes to launch and sustain impactful community initiatives. Together\, we’ll learn from a diverse range of cross-sector leaders\, share personal stories\, and reflect on how community has shaped our lives and leadership. \nTo encourage open and candid discussion\, this event follows the Chatham House Rule – attendees may share insights from the conversation but cannot attribute statements to specific individuals or organizations.
