SUMMARY:Navigating DEIB Headwinds
DESCRIPTION:Navigating DEIB Headwinds\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual Leader RoundtableWednesday\, September 27\, 20234:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT\n \n \n \n \n \n The rising tide of anti-DEIB rhetoric\, activism\, and litigation is concerning. The Supreme Court’s recent ruling against established equal protection under law not only effectively ended the use of affirmative action in college admissions\, but also paved the way for a host of new legal challenges to programs aimed at bolstering diversity.  And with the likelihood of new stakeholder pressures and pivotal moments arising as the 2024 U.S. presidential campaign cycle heats up\, the stage is set for a challenging period for diversity\, equity\, and inclusion work more broadly.  \nThis sea change threatens to undermine decades of work to ensure that our schools\, workplaces\, and institutions are more equitable\, and has the potential to change the landscape of DEIB work for decades to come. But within these headwinds is also a meaningful opportunity — a chance for leaders to take stock of and adapt to new challenges\, consider valid criticisms\, and meet the moment.  \nTogether\, we will isolate the most important and solvable challenges\, surface our biggest learnings and recommendations\, and think aloud in draft mode about what we can do to prepare for the road ahead. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

These inequities are the direct result of structures that systematically withheld access to better opportunities for generations.  \nJoin fellow NationSwell Council members as we take a cross-sector approach to discussing actionable\, tactical\, and scalable solutions to dismantling the systems and structures that continue to exacerbate these inequities. Together\, we will examine the meaning of equitable leadership and discuss what leaders can do to develop the capacity to engage in purposeful action. \nThis participatory salon is open to all Council members who are interested in social justice\, economic opportunity\, and generational equity. \n“If you have come here to help me\, you are wasting your time. These inequities stem from structures that have systematically withheld access to better opportunities for generations. While increased awareness of these inequities is a step in the right direction\, it’s merely the beginning. \nJoin fellow NationSwell members at DC Central Kitchen to discuss turning awareness into action. As we navigate a period of rapid technological and societal change\, it is important to examine and understand the current state of our societal ties. How has American society\, our government\, our relationships with each other\, and our responsibilities as citizens changed over time? What are we excited about? SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: The Case for Childcare Collaborative
DESCRIPTION:Lunch & Learn: The Case for Childcare Collaborative\n \n \n \n \n \n Location: VirtualWednesday\, November 8th\, 20233:00pm – 3:45pm ET | 12:00pm – 12:45pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n In 2022\, NationSwell launched the first year of the Case for Childcare Collaborative to explore the business case for supporting working families\, the childcare economy\, and early childhood education. In this session\, our team will share insights from the first year\, highlighting places that employers & funders can make a difference. In addition\, the team will discuss the next steps for the Collaborative in the new year & how you can get involved. \nFor context: The COVID-19 pandemic and its effects have had profound implications for women in the workforce – millions of women left the workplace in 2020 and over 2 million women have still not returned\, many due to the lack of affordable and accessible childcare. The implications of this social and economic issue have exposed a few key dynamics: (1) the US has a broken care system that has disproportionately affected working families\, especially BIPOC women\, and frontline workers (2) women\, in particular\, mothers\, tend to bear the brunt of unpaid caregiving responsibilities\, and (3) the economic consequences of this workforce exodus not only affects families and individual households\, but business growth and the U.S. economy suffer overall\, too.  \nIn partnership with American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact\, Annie E. Casey Foundation\, National Domestic Workers Alliance\, Pivotal Ventures\, and Working for Women\, our Case for Childcare Collaborative has spent the last year engaging in research to understand the widespread challenges and opportunities when it comes to making the business case for childcare and the economic impact at large\, while also seeking out solutions and examples of what is working. We believe employers have an important role to play in the child care movement. We are thrilled to continue this work for a second year\, doubling down our efforts on employers of frontline\, low-wage\, and gig workers. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

As legal challenges\, shareholder proposals\, and other headwinds mount\, corporate and philanthropic leaders are confronting an uncertain path forward for their diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging initiatives. \nWhile the moment demands near-term defensive moves to protect programs from legal risks\, it also invites a conversation about increasing the long-term sustainability and durability of DEIB work. How can organizations design and implement future-proof strategies? And\, what are the ways in which leaders and organizations can go on the offense to not only push back against today’s threats but to stake an even bolder future for justice and equity in the U.S.? \nJoin NationSwell and fellow members for breakfast and a facilitated discussion during which we will isolate the most critical and solvable challenges\, surface our biggest learnings and recommendations\, and think aloud in draft mode about what we can do to prepare for the road ahead. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

DESCRIPTION:Diversifying Talent Pipelines and the Importance of Ongoing Investment\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual Roundtable | ZoomTuesday\, November 14th\, 20234:00–5:00 PM ET / 1:00–2:00 PM PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT\n \n \n \n \n \n It has become clear that diversifying talent pipelines is an increasing priority for employers. Companies are interested in hiring more first-generation college students and talent of color than ever before\, and there is a clear opportunity to continue investment after they have entered the workforce\, creating environments where entry-level employees are able to progress and thrive in their roles. We are in an opportune moment to accelerate progress with the current focus on increasing protections for DEIB programs.  \nThe vision of a diverse\, thriving\, and equitable workforce will only be realized if talent of color and first generation college students have the resources and support they need not only to secure employment\, but to retain and progress within their roles.  \nJoin us for a conversation on how to prepare institutions to be ready for a new labor market with a focus on DEIB. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Featured Participants\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Opportunity Network has created an initiative called Opportunity Ignited\, through which they work with employers to learn\, design\, and build inclusive workplaces that will retain talent of color and center DEIB throughout the hiring and career development process. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

Leaders have an opportunity to accelerate solutions that can position communities of color to thrive as the technological revolution takes hold—or risk the possibilities of exasperating inequities.   \nJoin NationSwell\, The Latino Community Foundation\, and The San Francisco Foundation\, for a conversation that will examine the challenges and opportunities\, surface recommendations to guard our democracy\, and move towards a more inclusive economy and explore a path forward. SUMMARY:Safeguarding Democracy: A Call to Action for the 2024 Election
DESCRIPTION:Safeguarding Democracy: A Call to Action for the 2024 Election\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual Leader RoundtableTuesday\, December 5\, 20234:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT\n \n \n \n \n \n One year out from the 2024 election\, the dangers of hyperpolarization\, political violence\, and support for anti-democratic candidates are now evident and well-documented. We are well past the point of diagnosing these inbound threats — now is the time for solutions\, and we’ve heard from members that you’re very keen to engage.  \nThere is great work already being done on the ground to safeguard our institutions and democratic norms: grassroots efforts to support free and fair voting\, campaigns to reduce partisan animosity\, and programs dedicated to fortifying internet access for communities in need. But more work is needed — particularly ahead of a high-stakes election year that holds great potential to divide us anew.  \nTo that end\, please join us for a special pop-up event where we’ll discuss what to expect in the upcoming 2024 election and how we can better prepare ourselves to face these renewed threats to democracy. This will be the first in a series of events we’ll hold as we look ahead to and anticipate the political events 2024 has in store. \nTogether with Ian Bassin — a co-founder and the executive director of Protect Democracy and a former associate White House counsel — and a fantastic group of experts\, we’ll hear from those on the forefront of what’s already happening; explore the solutions that are already working; examine the persistent pain points; and discuss how we can best show up in the spirit of openness\, compassion\, and diligence a thriving democracy requires. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

Don’t miss this chance to challenge your assumptions and find inspiration in these transformative narratives. Each guest will receive a free copy of Invisible No More: Voices from Native America at the event. \nThis event is part of the MCF Book Club: Reading for a Liberated Future series. SUMMARY:What’s Ahead in Climate & Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:What’s Ahead in Climate & Sustainability\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableTuesday\, January 30\, 20244:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n The first-ever global stocktake in 2023 confirmed what we already know: we are significantly off track to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. As we begin a new year\, the time is right for us to reflect on what’s needed to act with urgency and conviction. \n2024 will bring parallel challenges and opportunities for corporate sustainability programs and their leaders. New reporting regulations are in effect or will soon be\, global efforts to increase focus on biodiversity and nature-related climate impacts are underway\, scrutiny of carbon markets and their role in net zero commitments is reaching new heights\, AI is promising novel solutions at the same time it carries certain risks to our progress\, and the need for community-centered approaches to adaptation and resilience is likely to become even more acute as climate impacts mount. \nJoin us at this virtual Leader Roundtable for a forward-looking discussion about the year ahead for climate and sustainability work. Together we’ll surface the most pressing questions\, trends\, needs\, and opportunities on the horizon for 2024 and engage one another in a discussion about the most impactful ways this community can drive progress in the months ahead. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.
