DESCRIPTION:Strategic Advisory Group: Creating Equity in the Nonprofit Space\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Wednesday\, June 15\, 2022 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				There has been an explosion of grassroots fundraising and activism over the last few years as communities rise to meet the growing challenges and rapid changes in our country.  But newer nonprofit organizations\, especially those started and run by people of color\, often run into roadblocks as they grow\, clashing with older\, more established support systems as they try to expand their charitable efforts. \nCouncil member Mike Keo\, founder of Make Us Visible is focused on tackling this very issue. Mike’s organization has made huge strides in passing bills to ensure the inclusion of AAPI history in school curricula. But as Make Us Visible expands to more states\, challenges from best practices around governance to logistical issues such as registering as a nonprofit have arisen. \nAt this Strategic Advisory Session\, we will use Mike’s work as a case study on how we might advise and advance early-stage nonprofits creating a roadmap to successful expansion for other organizations like his. \nThis event is for Council members\, especially those with experience running nonprofits and an interest in supporting BIPOC community organizers. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				OBJECTIVES AND PRIMARY TAKEAWAYS\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				1. With a focus on underserved communities and areas most impacted by the shift “from brown to green energy\,” this work is aimed to support a just transition into a low-carbon economy. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				What We’ll Discuss\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				The nuances of local needs means that placed-based\, community-led and industry-specific interventions should be favored over generic solutions\, and yet we know that there is work to be done to help create functioning ecosystems of stakeholders to support equitable pathways to fast-growing green jobs. This can be especially true for single\, working caregivers. As the most recent wave of the pandemic recedes and more people return to the office\, leaving less time for employees’ caregiving duties\, it is critically important that employers tackle this problem head-on. \nIn this Strategic Advisory Workshop\, NationSwell Council members who are simultaneously both parents and leaders will ask for your feedback on actionable principles that workplaces can employ to improve the lives of their caregiving employees.
