SUMMARY:The Future of the American Dream\, Boston
DESCRIPTION:The Future of the American Dream\, Boston\n \n \n \n \n \n Boston\, MA (Back Bay)Thursday\, November 17 | 6:00pm – 9:00pm EDT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n I am interested in joining the conversation on The Future of the American Dream. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n Location information will be provided in a separate email once your registration has been confirmed. \nThe American people have over the past few decades seen their grip on their economic and personal agency become more tenuous. In Boston and beyond\, wages have stagnated while inflation continues to rise\, making incomes that once put workers squarely in the middle class in a position of economic precarity. At the same time\, wealth continues to accumulate at record levels among the top 1%\, while ordinary Americans struggle through the pandemic\, prepare for a recession\, and worry about social and economic strife. \nJoin fellow NationSwell Council members for an informative and engaging dinner conversation where we will tackle questions of how we can restore\, or better yet\, interrogate and reimagine the American Dream and create an inclusive and equity-driven society and economy that works for all. We will examine where our individual and collective power lies — in the workplace\, in the economy\, and in our communities — and how we can wield it in solidarity to restore our agency and positively impact our economic and social outcomes. \nThis participatory event is for local Council members who are interested in social justice\, economic opportunity\, and generational equity. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n AGENDA\n \n \n \n \n \n 6:00 PMWelcome and Happy Hour \n6:45 PMDinner and Discussion \n8:30 PMMingle with fellow Council members \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n COVID-19 In-Person Policy\n \n \n \n \n \n The health and safety of our NationSwell members\, staff\, and community is incredibly important to us. SUMMARY:Break the Bias Part 4: Understanding Reproductive Healthcare and Access Through Inspiring Examples\, New York City
DESCRIPTION:Break the Bias Part 4: Understanding Reproductive Healthcare and Access Through Inspiring Examples\, New York City\n \n \n \n \n \n In-Person Event | New York CityNovember 2\, 6:00pm – 9:00pm ET \n \n Join the Waitlist.\n \n \n \n \n \n I am interested in joining the conversation Understanding Reproductive Healthcare and Access\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n The fight to secure access to safe reproductive health care faces an uphill climb. With the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson eliminating the constitutional right to abortions and a flurry of restrictive legislation being proposed\, passed\, and enacted\, the work can be both physically exhausting and emotionally draining. But there is reason to be optimistic. \nJoin fellow Council Leaders for a discussion on the future of reproductive health and justice. The discourse surrounding abortion can sometimes feel devisive\, but reproductive rights is a conversation for all — one that includes issues of health\, equal opportunity\, justice\, and civic action. \nInspiring organizations are already finding opportunities to affect change\, such as Sister Song\, Collective Power\, Reproductive Health Access Project\, and Caraway Health.  \nThis Jeffersonian-style salon\, hosted by NationSwell Council members Tory Clarke\, co-founder and Partner at Bridge Partners\, and Beth Bengtson\, CEO of Working for Women\, is an opportunity to think deeply about how we might reimagine the future of reproductive health and rights\, and ask how we can be inspired by those already working in this sphere to continue to take action in thoughtful ways that drive change. \nThis in-person event is for leaders and activists with a strong interest in equity\, justice\, and human rights. Light bites and drinks will be provided.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hosted By\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tory Clarke\nCo-founder and Partner \nBridge Partners \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Facilitated By\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Beth Bengtson\nCEO  \nWorking for Women \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n COVID-19 In-Person Policy\n \n \n \n \n \n The health and safety of our NationSwell members\, staff\, and community is incredibly important to us. SUMMARY:From Melting Pot to Potluck Dinners: A Vision for an Inclusive America
DESCRIPTION:From Melting Pot to Potluck Dinners: A Vision for an Inclusive America\n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell Salon | New York CityWednesday\, October 12\, 20225:30pm EDT \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n Location information will be provided in your registration confirmation email. \nProponents of a pluralistic America often use the metaphor of a “melting pot” to talk about how diversity strengthens our nation. But what if we go beyond the melting pot and think of America at its inclusive best as… more of a potluck dinner? \nPotlucks are civic spaces that both embody and celebrate pluralism. They rely on the contributions of a diverse community. If people don’t bring an offering\, the potluck doesn’t exist. If everyone brings the same thing\, the potluck is boring. They respect diverse identities by enthusiastically welcoming the gifts of the people who gather. They facilitate relationships between people by creating a space for eating and socializing and surprise connections. And they cultivate in people the importance of not just the individual parts and the connections between them\, but the health of the whole as well. \nJoin fellow leaders at NationSwell for an in-person fireside discussion of what it takes to bring this vision of America from theory to practice. You’ll listen to a spirited discussion between Council member Eboo Patel and ADL President Jonathan Greenblatt\, rooted in Eboo’s new book\, “We Need to Build.” Together\, we’ll explore the actionable\, tangible steps leaders can take to move us from melting pot to potluck\, learning how leaders can build and support diverse institutions for equitable social change. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FEATURING\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Eboo Patel\nFounder and President at Interfaith America \nAuthor of ‘We Need To Build’\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jonathan A. SUMMARY:Advancing Education Equity in a Post-Pandemic World
DESCRIPTION:Advancing Education Equity in a Post-Pandemic World\n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, October 5\, 2022\n4:00 pm – 5:00 pm EDT \nVirtual – Zoom Details to Follow\n \n I'm interested in joining this event.\n \n \n \n \n \n I am interested in joining the Advancing Education Equity in a Post-Pandemic World\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n During the pandemic\, we heard so much rhetoric about how COVID’s disruption exposed the broken\, inequitable systems that so many accepted as givens in our society. But if we are truly attempting to build towards a more just world and fix what didn’t work\, why is there such a focus on returning to the old status quo of our education system? \nYoung people are continuing to shoulder the multi-year burden of education during the pandemic. We are facing multiple crises: mental health\, a lack of qualified teachers in classrooms\, and attacks on curricula rooted in the facts of our history. \nFellow Council member Mohan Sivaloganathan\, CEO of Our Turn\, will lead us in an open conversation with students\, education leaders\, and policy experts on how we can advance education equity in a post-pandemic world. Join us to learn how leaders can take tangible steps to build a new normal that doesn’t fail the future of America’s students by rooting what’s possible for their education in the inequities of their past.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MODERATOR\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mohan Sivaloganathan\nCEO\, Our Turn \n \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n PANELISTS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hamse Warfa\nSenior Advisor\, U.S. Department of State\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Syd Fryer\nOur Turn Executive Fellow and University Student\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Arshia Papari\nOur Turn Organizing Fellow and High School Student \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kurt Browning\nSuperintendent\, Pasco County Schools (FL)\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Armando Montero\nSchool Board Member\, Tempe Union High School District (AZ)\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Check out the Council calendar to learn more about upcoming events. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

Over the last two years\, we have watched as many Americans have lost trust in our elections\, government\, public institutions\, and even in each other. We invite you to join a panel of experts and practitioners to discuss the survival of democracy in America and elsewhere.  \nNationSwell will be joined by Nate Lubin\, founder of Fellow Americans\, and Nick Penniman\, founder of Issue One\, for a discussion tackling questions of how to rebuild that lost trust. This participatory event will examine the forces within our politics that are at the root of this predicament — from negative advertising to widespread election myths — as participants delve into the complexities of these and other issues that are chipping away at our democracy. \nThis event is open to all Council members\, especially those with an interest in advancing our democracy and bridging divides. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ANCHORS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Nathaniel J. In California and beyond\, wages have stagnated while inflation continues to rise\, making incomes that once put workers squarely in the middle class in a position of economic precarity. At the same time\, wealth continues to accumulate at record levels among the top 1%\, while ordinary Americans struggle through the pandemic\, prepare for a recession\, and worry about social and economic strife. \nJoin NationSwell and Council member hosts Mark Loranger + Maria Kim for an informative and engaging dinner conversation where we will tackle questions of how we can restore\, or better yet\, interrogate and reimagine the American Dream and create an inclusive and equity-driven society and economy that works for all. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hosted By\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mark Loranger \nPresident & CEO\, Chrysalis \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Maria Kim\nPresident & CEO\, REDF \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n COVID-19 In-Person Policy\n \n \n \n \n \n The health and safety of our NationSwell members\, staff\, and community is incredibly important to us. SUMMARY:New Leadership in a Changing and Uncertain World
DESCRIPTION:New Leadership in a Changing and Uncertain World\n \n \n \n \n \n Monday\, August 15\, 2022 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EDT\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n As we continue adjusting to the new normal of our post-pandemic world\, many organizations are exploring new leadership models. The shift away from the typical office experience has prompted a reexamination of traditional hierarchical systems and how we can reorganize in ways that produce more equitable outcomes. As leaders grapple with questions of how organizational values may have shifted\, we ask how new forms of leadership can better reflect those values. \nJoin NationSwell Council members Beth Bengtson\, Radha Ruparell\, JaTaune Bosby\, and Reyna Montoya for a discussion in our ongoing Break the Bias series exploring these alternate forms of leadership that challenge the norms of the typical workplace dynamic. We will explore atypical leadership models such as shared leadership\, adaptive leadership\, and collective leadership\, and others.  \nThe panel will explore questions about what it means to truly share power and how these new models can be used to further organizational goals while creating safer\, more equitable workspaces that open up new ways for people to interact and collaborate\, and allow for the inclusion of perspectives that were previously missed or undervalued. \nThis event is open to all Council members\, especially CEOs\, founders\, and others in leadership roles. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n PANELISTS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Beth Bengtson\nFounder/CEO \nWorking for Women\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Radha Ruparell\nHead of Global Leadership Accelerator \nTeach For All\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n JaTaune Bosby Gilchrist \n Executive Director \nACLU of Alabama \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Reyna Montoya\nFounder & CEO \n Aliento \n  \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MORE ON THIS TOPIC FROM NATIONSWELL\n \n \n \n \n \n 01\n \n \n \n \n \n Seizing the moment to close the opportunity gap\n \n Read\n \n \n \n \n \n 02\n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell Insights Briefing: Actionable practices for 2022\n \n Access the Insights Briefing\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Check out the Council calendar to learn more about upcoming events. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

In California and beyond\, wages have stagnated while inflation continues to rise\, making incomes that once put workers squarely in the middle class in a position of economic precarity. At the same time\, wealth continues to accumulate at record levels among the top 1%\, while ordinary residents struggle through the pandemic\, prepare for a recession\, and worry about social and economic strife.  \nJoin NationSwell and Council member host Autumn McDonald for an informative and engaging dinner conversation where we will tackle questions of how we can interrogate and reimagine the American Dream and create an inclusive and equity-driven society and economy that works for all. We will examine where our individual and collective power lies — in the workplace\, in the economy\, and in our communities — and how we can wield it in solidarity to restore our agency and positively impact our economic and social futures. \nThis participatory event is for local Council members who are interested in social justice\, economic opportunity\, and generational equity. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hosted By\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Autumn McDonald\nSenior Fellow & Head of New America CA\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n COVID-19 In-Person Policy\n \n \n \n \n \n The health and safety of our NationSwell members\, staff\, and community is incredibly important to us. SUMMARY:Advisory Forum: We the Veterans’ Vet the Vote Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Advisory Forum: We the Veterans’ Vet the Vote Initiative\n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, July 20\, 2022 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm EDT \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n Free and fair elections are one of the bedrock principles of American democracy. But the proper functioning of our elections is at risk from a number of forces\, one of which is a national shortage of poll workers\, which has reached a critical level.  The traditional cohort of poll workers has an average age of 60 and their outstanding volunteerism has been badly suppressed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Election boards across the country have struggled to recruit enough volunteers to efficiently and effectively run elections and keep polling places open and running smoothly. America needs to recruit more than 1 million volunteers annually to administer election polling sites. We The Veterans is working to fill that void with its nonpartisan Vet the Vote initiative\, which seeks to recruit 100\,000 veterans and military family members to fill these vacant rolls and\, leveraging the credibility of this community\, help restore faith in our elections. \nNationSwell invites you to join Council member and We the Veterans co-founder Ben Keiser for a strategic advisory session to help further this effort. We are looking for leaders in the veteran community along with experts in public relations\, marketing\, coalition building\, and democracy activists to provide insights and actionable goals for the Vet the Vote initiative. \nBen will be seeking advice on how best to build a brand that generates awareness and public trust in this effort\, increase awareness about poll workers and what they do\, build partnerships outside the veteran and military community\, and reach unaffiliated veterans and military families\, with a focus on engaging with large corporate CSR and veteran ERG groups. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Advisee\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ben Keiser\nCo-Founder and Board Member \nVet the Vote \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Presented By\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

SUMMARY:Harnessing the Power of Media to Reduce Abortion Stigma and Drive Systematic Change
DESCRIPTION:Harnessing the Power of Media to Reduce Abortion Stigma and Drive Systematic Change\n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, July 13\, 2022 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EDT \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n On June 24\, the United States Supreme Court officially moved to overturn Roe v. Wade — the landmark 1973 decision that made abortion legal. The decision created chaos in its wake\, immediately triggering into effect a slew of laws designed to severely limit or ban abortion outright that had been drafted across multiple states in anticipation of the decision. In this post-Roe America\, millions of people — particularly those from vulnerable communities — will soon lose the ability to access a safe abortion. \nNationSwell and our partners at PSI invite you to a discussion exploring the fight for abortion access on another front– looking at popular culture as a powerful tool in normalizing taboo subjects. Drawing from experiences like gay rights advancing alongside LGBTQ TV characters and openly queer celebrities and the destigmatization of HIV through TV and Radio internationally\, we will look at the next frontier of moving popular opinion on abortion through narrative change. \nNationSwell Council member Jess Jacobs\, will moderate a panel focusing on how we can use entertainment and popular culture to shift the perception of abortion — stripping the issue of its partisan framing and refocusing it as an issue of individual rights and health care access. \nJess Jacobs is an award-winning actress\, writer\, producer\, and philanthropist-activist whose work focuses on centering female and femme experiences to further equity and justice. Jess will be joined by Gretchen Sisson\, a principal investigator for the Abortion Onscreen program\, studying depictions of abortion in American popular culture\, Samhita Mukhopadhyay\, author\, leader\, & pioneer of conscious media\, and Dr. Eva Lathrop\, the Global Medical Director at PSI Global who develops robust programs to address sexual and reproductive health\, legal abortion and post-abortion care.  Join these experts as they examine how we can go about creating a culture of acceptance and affecting\, lasting long-term change in how abortion is viewed. \nThis event is open to all NationSwell members and the general public.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Presenters\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jess jacobs\nActress\, Filmmaker and Maverick Collective Member \nModerator \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n gretchen sisson\nSociologist\nANSIRH at UCSF \nPanelist\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n dr. eva lathrop\nGlobal Medical Director\nPSI Global \nPanelist\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Samhita mukhopadhyay\nAuthor and Former Executive Editor at Teen VogueFormer Executive Editor of Feministing \nPanelist \n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n More on this topic from NationSwell\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event is the second installment of a NationSwell series on abortion and reproductive rights. Schools and systems are eyeing fall 2022 as an opportunity to continue the recovery process\, but the challenges in our public schools predate the pandemic by many generations. \nTo help contextualize and tackle those challenges\, NSC member Justin Cohen is on the cusp of releasing a new book Change Agents: Transforming Schools from the Ground Up\, which tells the inspiring stories of educators in five communities who have taken school improvement work into their own hands with striking results. Justin and his publisher invite you to join an intimate roundtable discussion\, to hear your expertise and guidance on how to leverage this exciting new work to re-engage educators everywhere about the work of transforming American public schools. Justin’s book makes the bold\, yet practical\, argument that educator-led transformation is the most promising mechanism for school improvement at scale … and that this sort of work is only possible through a dual emphasis on continuous improvement and racial equity analysis. \nMembers who join the roundtable will receive a confidential first peek at the manuscript\, which Corwin/Sage is readying for release in fall of 2022. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ADVISEES\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n JUSTIN C. DESCRIPTION:Protecting the Dignity of LGBTQIA+ Youth\n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, June 29\, 2022 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n This year\, the US has passed an unprecedented number of state bills designed to attack the personhood of LGBTQIA+ youth. While most of that legislation is bound to be hammered by legal challenges\, the bills represent a full-frontal attack on some of the LGBTQIA+ community’s most vulnerable members: children. \nDuring this NationSwell Mainstage event\, we’ll seek to explore the cultural effects of these bills and what we can do to affirm the dignity and rights of queer children. The event will feature opening remarks from Colorado Gov. Jared Polis\, the first openly gay man to be elected governor; will be moderated by Lauren Baer\, a managing partner at Arena; and will feature panelists Carl Siciliano\, founder of the Ali Forney Center\, Sam Ames (they/them)\, director of advocacy and government affairs at The Trevor Project\, and Janelle Perez\, civic leader & candidate for Florida State Senate.  \nAny members or allies of the LGBTQIA+ community are invited and encouraged to attend. Our hope is that participants will walk away with a greater awareness of the damaging effects of such proposals\, in addition to a handful of actionable steps to take in order to safeguard the dignity of our nation’s queer youth. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Welcome Address\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Governor Jared Polis\nGovernor of Colorado Opening Keynote \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n PANELISTS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lauren Baer\nManaging Partner \nArena \nModerator\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Carl Siciliano\nFounder \nAli Forney Center \nPanelist\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n sam ames\nDirector of Advocacy and Government Affairs \nThe Trevor Project \nPanelist\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Janelle perez\nFlorida State Senate Candidate & Civic Leader \nPanelist\n \n Learn more\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Check out the Mainstage calendar to learn more about upcoming events. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

SUMMARY:Strategic Advisory Group: Creating Equity in the Nonprofit Space
DESCRIPTION:Strategic Advisory Group: Creating Equity in the Nonprofit Space\n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, June 15\, 2022 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n There has been an explosion of grassroots fundraising and activism over the last few years as communities rise to meet the growing challenges and rapid changes in our country.  But newer nonprofit organizations\, especially those started and run by people of color\, often run into roadblocks as they grow\, clashing with older\, more established support systems as they try to expand their charitable efforts. \nCouncil member Mike Keo\, founder of Make Us Visible is focused on tackling this very issue. Mike’s organization has made huge strides in passing bills to ensure the inclusion of AAPI history in school curricula. But as Make Us Visible expands to more states\, challenges from best practices around governance to logistical issues such as registering as a nonprofit have arisen. \nAt this Strategic Advisory Session\, we will use Mike’s work as a case study on how we might advise and advance early-stage nonprofits creating a roadmap to successful expansion for other organizations like his. \nThis event is for Council members\, especially those with experience running nonprofits and an interest in supporting BIPOC community organizers. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n OBJECTIVES AND PRIMARY TAKEAWAYS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 1. This can be especially true for single\, working caregivers. As the most recent wave of the pandemic recedes and more people return to the office\, leaving less time for employees’ caregiving duties\, it is critically important that employers tackle this problem head-on. \nIn this Strategic Advisory Workshop\, NationSwell Council members who are simultaneously both parents and leaders will ask for your feedback on actionable principles that workplaces can employ to improve the lives of their caregiving employees. This event is for Council members who are CEOs\, people managers\, or in HR\, as well as any caregivers in the NationSwell Council. \nNationSwell Strategic Advisory Groups provide a great way for members to support each other\, build community\, offer advice\, and collaborate. This specific event is produced by the NationSwell Council Single Parents Affinity Group.
