SUMMARY:Trust Based Philanthropy
DESCRIPTION:Trust Based Philanthropy\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableThursday\, August 22nd\, 20244:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n Trust-based philanthropy is built on the fundamental principles of mutual respect\, accountability\, and meaningful partnership between funders and grantees. But many philanthropic leaders face immediate institutional limitations in implementing fully trust-based philanthropy\, such as metrics and required reporting. One crucial aspect is distinguishing between trust and transparency\, ensuring that funders are clear and explicit with their stakeholders about their limitations and needs for a mutual partnership. \nJoin us as we explore the building blocks of trust-based philanthropy. How can you ensure authenticity while meeting the interests of your stakeholders? What success stories can guide you? And how should you measure the impact of trust-based giving? \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

The Collaborative aimed to bring leaders across sectors and disciplines to explore community-guided strategies while aiming to build  pathways to deeper generational impact.  As a part of this learning journey\, we have uncovered a responsive approach that promises the possibility of systems change\, but requires long-term and bold investment strategies that are rooted in collaboration and trust. In this session\, a panel of experts will share more about their unique experiences and the places they have invested in followed by a moderated Q&A session.  Through this event\, we hope to bring more funders into this important work and provide attendees insight into the NationSwell Collaboratives experience \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

SUMMARY:Expanding Pathways to Economic Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Expanding Pathways to Economic Opportunity\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableTuesday\, July 16th\, 20244:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n Skills-based approaches are continuing to transform the way employers recruit and develop talent. Following a global pandemic and an economic recession\, talent managers are increasingly turning away from the limited scope of degrees and titles and embracing the exciting new initiatives\, models\, and cross-sector partnerships that hold the potential to build alternative pathways into good jobs for historically underrepresented groups.  \nBut amidst this nascent pivot to skills-based hiring\, what are the stumbling blocks companies are still facing in implementing skills-based hiring practices? And what can employers do imminently to help fortify the pipelines that will ultimately build and sustain a more inclusive workforce? During this virtual Leader Roundtable\, we’ll aim to share and uncover the most practical tools\, alliances\, and strategies for developing more equitable and durable talent pipelines for your organizations and the communities you serve. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Boosting Civic Participation and Civic Competence Among Employees
DESCRIPTION:Workshop: Boosting Civic Participation and Civic Competence Among Employees\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableThursday\, June 06\, 20244:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n This workshop is part 1 of a 3-part series\, based in large part on new research from NationSwell (read the report\, Civics Inc.\, here). \nEmployers wield considerable influence over individual civic participation through their ability to inform and activate workers. At a minimum\, they must provide employees with the opportunity to cast their vote on Election Day without penalty. But the ceiling for what companies can do to promote civic participation is considerably higher. \nSo what are the most effective ways to increase employee participation in voting\, poll working\, community organizing\, and more? How can you help employees access information that will help them to participate productively and respectfully in civic life? And what can you do to support employees in managing workplace political dialogue when it inevitably happens? Based on new NationSwell research\, join us for a small-group workshop to learn directly from your peers about opportunities to increase and facilitate employee civic participation during the 2024 Presidential election cycle. \nThis workshop follows Chatham House Rule\, ensuring that participants can freely exchange ideas without attribution. Under this rule\, discussions are confidential\, allowing for open and candid dialogue among attendees. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

SUMMARY:Building Thriving Futures: Towards Inclusive Economic Growth
DESCRIPTION:Building Thriving Futures: Towards Inclusive Economic Growth\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableTuesday\, June 4\, 20241:00pm – 2:00pm ET / 10:00am – 11:00am PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n In communities across the United States\, leaders are forging pathways to resilience through dynamic collaborations between the private\, public and social sectors. As we navigate the complex landscape of economic development\, it’s evident that affordable housing represents just one component of wealth building to establish sustainable prosperity. Workforce development\, small business support\, and educational access are also among the myriad of avenues through which wealth creation and social equity can be cultivated. As we explore the intersections of equity\, our goal is to uncover additional pathways that enhance economic mobility and empower communities to thrive\, thus fostering a landscape of inclusive prosperity. \nJoin us for this insightful conversation hosted by FUSE\,  in partnership with NationSwell\, featuring special guest Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas. Cities are increasingly at the vanguard of narrowing wealth gaps. Mayor Lucas is a leader in breaking cycles of poverty\, building wealth in communities of color\, and strengthening Kansas City’s economy to build healthier neighborhoods. Together\, we’ll exchange perspectives\, share insights\, and explore the meaning of exclusive economic growth. DESCRIPTION:Climate Communication in the Age of Accountability: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities\n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableTuesday\, May 02\, 20244:00pm – 5:00pm ET / 1:00pm – 2:00pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n It’s no secret that we’re in a volatile moment for climate and sustainability work. Newly-approved S.E.C. rules around how public companies should disclose climate risks and increased scrutiny and pushback on greenwashing practices has swung the pendulum back in the other direction: Companies are now “greenhushing”  — deliberately downplaying their sustainability achievements — instead of celebrating well-intentioned climate goals\, and a culture of uncertainty has begun to permeate the ways in which we communicate about our work.  \nJoin us for a virtual Leader Roundtable discussion where we’ll break down how leaders are moving forward with their commitments — and publicizing them — during this uncertain chapter for climate work. Together\, we’ll unpack some of the biggest anxieties and roadblocks you’re currently facing in communicating about climate goals and how you’re dealing with increased pressure from the investor community and consumers alike. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

SUMMARY:The Case for Childcare Collaborative: Employer Solutions & Barriers to Supporting Frontline Working Families
DESCRIPTION:The Case for Childcare Collaborative: Employer Solutions & Barriers to Supporting Frontline Working Families \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Virtual RoundtableThursday\, April 18\, 20242:00pm – 3:15pm ET / 11:00am – 12:15pm PT \n \n I'm interested in joining this event. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About\n \n \n \n \n \n We believe employers play a critical role in the childcare movement with the ability to provide resources\, supportive policies\, and paid time off for childcare duties. Research shows that frontline\, low-wage\, and gig workers are often disproportionately left out of benefits that full-time or part-time workers receive\, including childcare benefits. We are on a mission to change this\, and provide pathways for every employer – whether small or large – to play a critical role in helping families meet their basic needs\, and understand the impact of childcare on their business models. This session will center the voices of employers of frontline workers\, revealing the bright spots & challenges that they face when supporting these working families. \nFor context: The COVID-19 pandemic and its effects have had profound implications for women in the workforce – over 2 million women have still not returned to the workplace\, many due to the lack of affordable and accessible childcare. The implications of this social and economic issue highlight: (1) the US has a broken care system that has disproportionately affected working families\, especially BIPOC women\, and frontline or deskless workers (2) women\, in particular\, mothers\, tend to bear the brunt of unpaid caregiving responsibilities\, and (3) the economic consequences of this workforce exodus not only affects families and individual households\, but business growth and the U.S. economy suffer overall\, too.  \nIn partnership with American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact\, the Annie E. Casey Foundation\, National Domestic Workers Alliance\, Pivotal Ventures\, and Working for Women\,  the Case for Childcare Collaborative  is committed to explore the business case for supporting working families\, the childcare economy\, and early childhood education. We concluded Phase 1 of our work\, launching a site that shows employers the business benefits of supporting childcare.  In this session\, we officially launch Phase 2 and aim to identify tangible policies & practices employers can implement to further support frontline workers who are parents.  \n  \nThis is the first event in a series. Register for our second event here. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

In the third and final installment of our “What’s ahead” series\, we’ll take a forward-facing look at how those challenges are manifesting in the philanthropic sector specifically — and at the levers leaders can pull in order to sustain and deepen their impact. \nTogether\, we’ll take a look ahead at some of the key trends\, innovations\, challenges\, and questions on the minds of philanthropy and nonprofit leaders as we chart our way through the year ahead.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

However\, happiness isn’t a given; it arises from our genetic predispositions\, cultural influences\, and is sculpted by our choices and deeds. So\, what everyday actions can steer us towards happiness?” \nJoin us as we discuss how behaviors like embracing creativity\, fostering optimism\, practicing gratitude\, and exhibiting compassion can not only enhance our personal lives but also ripple outwards\, contributing to a broader happiness in our communities. \nEngage with us in a conversation that cuts to the heart of happiness\, as we collectively ask: What is happiness and how do we find it? \n“Happiness is a journey\, not a destination; happiness is to be found along the way\, not at the end of the road\, for then the journey is over and it’s too late. The time for happiness is today not tomorrow.” – Paul H. As we begin a new year\, the time is right for us to reflect on what’s needed to act with urgency and conviction. \n2024 will bring parallel challenges and opportunities for corporate sustainability programs and their leaders. New reporting regulations are in effect or will soon be\, global efforts to increase focus on biodiversity and nature-related climate impacts are underway\, scrutiny of carbon markets and their role in net zero commitments is reaching new heights\, AI is promising novel solutions at the same time it carries certain risks to our progress\, and the need for community-centered approaches to adaptation and resilience is likely to become even more acute as climate impacts mount. \nJoin us at this virtual Leader Roundtable for a forward-looking discussion about the year ahead for climate and sustainability work. Together we’ll surface the most pressing questions\, trends\, needs\, and opportunities on the horizon for 2024 and engage one another in a discussion about the most impactful ways this community can drive progress in the months ahead. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

We are well past the point of diagnosing these inbound threats — now is the time for solutions\, and we’ve heard from members that you’re very keen to engage.  \nThere is great work already being done on the ground to safeguard our institutions and democratic norms: grassroots efforts to support free and fair voting\, campaigns to reduce partisan animosity\, and programs dedicated to fortifying internet access for communities in need. But more work is needed — particularly ahead of a high-stakes election year that holds great potential to divide us anew.  \nTo that end\, please join us for a special pop-up event where we’ll discuss what to expect in the upcoming 2024 election and how we can better prepare ourselves to face these renewed threats to democracy. This will be the first in a series of events we’ll hold as we look ahead to and anticipate the political events 2024 has in store. \nTogether with Ian Bassin — a co-founder and the executive director of Protect Democracy and a former associate White House counsel — and a fantastic group of experts\, we’ll hear from those on the forefront of what’s already happening; explore the solutions that are already working; examine the persistent pain points; and discuss how we can best show up in the spirit of openness\, compassion\, and diligence a thriving democracy requires. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

Leaders have an opportunity to accelerate solutions that can position communities of color to thrive as the technological revolution takes hold—or risk the possibilities of exasperating inequities.   \nJoin NationSwell\, The Latino Community Foundation\, and The San Francisco Foundation\, for a conversation that will examine the challenges and opportunities\, surface recommendations to guard our democracy\, and move towards a more inclusive economy and explore a path forward. Companies are interested in hiring more first-generation college students and talent of color than ever before\, and there is a clear opportunity to continue investment after they have entered the workforce\, creating environments where entry-level employees are able to progress and thrive in their roles. We are in an opportune moment to accelerate progress with the current focus on increasing protections for DEIB programs.  \nThe vision of a diverse\, thriving\, and equitable workforce will only be realized if talent of color and first generation college students have the resources and support they need not only to secure employment\, but to retain and progress within their roles.  \nJoin us for a conversation on how to prepare institutions to be ready for a new labor market with a focus on DEIB. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Featured Participants\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Opportunity Network has created an initiative called Opportunity Ignited\, through which they work with employers to learn\, design\, and build inclusive workplaces that will retain talent of color and center DEIB throughout the hiring and career development process. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.

As legal challenges\, shareholder proposals\, and other headwinds mount\, corporate and philanthropic leaders are confronting an uncertain path forward for their diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging initiatives. \nWhile the moment demands near-term defensive moves to protect programs from legal risks\, it also invites a conversation about increasing the long-term sustainability and durability of DEIB work. The Supreme Court’s recent ruling against established equal protection under law not only effectively ended the use of affirmative action in college admissions\, but also paved the way for a host of new legal challenges to programs aimed at bolstering diversity.  And with the likelihood of new stakeholder pressures and pivotal moments arising as the 2024 U.S. presidential campaign cycle heats up\, the stage is set for a challenging period for diversity\, equity\, and inclusion work more broadly.  \nThis sea change threatens to undermine decades of work to ensure that our schools\, workplaces\, and institutions are more equitable\, and has the potential to change the landscape of DEIB work for decades to come. But within these headwinds is also a meaningful opportunity — a chance for leaders to take stock of and adapt to new challenges\, consider valid criticisms\, and meet the moment.  \nTogether\, we will isolate the most important and solvable challenges\, surface our biggest learnings and recommendations\, and think aloud in draft mode about what we can do to prepare for the road ahead. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n NationSwell’s events and experiences are designed to bring together diverse\, purpose-driven leaders and organizations for learning\, inspiration\, relationship-building\, and societal impact.
